Goofy Chocolate Cake Recipe
This is a great Chocolate Cake recipe I used to use all the time when I was younger and could afford to eat chocolate cake every month. It's called "Goofy" because it doesn't use milk nor does it use eggs, and it gets better as you let it sit, covered.
Goofy Chocolate Cake Recipe
1 ½ cups flour
1 cup sugar
5 Tbsp cocoa
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
¼ tsp salt
mix all together, and make three holes, so the next three ingredients don't mix.
5 Tbsps melted butter/canola oil
1 Tbsp vinegar
1 tsp vanilla
Put these three in the three holes in the flour mix. pour
1 cup warm water
Over everything, stir it all up. It will be about the consistency of yogurt.
Put it in a lightly greased 8x8" pan (PAM works great for this) and bake in a 350?F preheated oven for about 20 minutes - check at 15 minutes with a toothpick in the center just to be sure - then check about every 3 minutes after.
If the toothpick comes out clean, or slightly moist, then stop cooking it - it's done. It will also start to pull away slightly from the edges of the pan.
This cake is magnificent and because it doesn't have any milk or eggs you can leave it out overnight (covered) and it just gets even more moist!
Craziness I tell ya! Have fun!

Catch laptop thieves with Prey Project
Came across a neat project recently, open source with GPLv3: http://preyproject.com/
Basically, it's a little piece of software that connects to a server and lets you know where the laptop is if a thief steals it. It's open source so you can set up your own prey server and have the device connect to that.
Prey is for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Free signup is required for the use of their server.
Iaido
Iaido, the martial art most closely associated with the Japanese Samurai class, is the art of drawing and cutting with a samurai sword. I have been practicing Iaido for over 10 years now, and I have to say I really enjoy it - I guess that's obvious if I've been doing it for over 10 years! More information is here: http://www.iaido.ca
Anyway, I just thought I would add something to this blog. It seems to be kinda stagnant right now.
I'm thinking of creating a web framework from PHP that will allow you to define objects and how they interact with each other. This means no PHP coding for new sites, just Object definitions.. Has anyone ever done anything like this before?
Next on the topic list, I'm currently working at UVic as a Systems Administrator, and we work mainly with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. I'll post tips up as I get them.
